IIABA was founded in 1896 as the National Local Association of Fire Insurance Agents. With the expansion of property-casualty business and coverages, the organization's name was changed to the National Association of Insurance Agents in 1913. To emphasize its members' ability to work with a variety of insurance companies, the organization became the Independent Insurance Agents of America in 1975. The Association's name was changed in 2002 to the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America to reflect the diversity of its membership, which includes both independent insurance agents and insurance brokers.
IIABA is a voluntary federation of state associations and local boards, with affiliates in every state and the District of Columbia. Its independent insurance agents and brokers are politically astute and are involved both locally and nationally. They monitor and affect consumer, insurance agent and broker, and small business issues in Washington through IIABA's active, professional staff on Capitol Hill.
About Us
The Independent Insurance Agents of Kentucky (IIAK) is the largest state trade association, dedicated to independent insurance agents throughout Kentucky. Founded in 1896, IIAK has been serving independent agents for over 100 years and today offers more benefits, products and services than ever before.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Independent Insurance Agents of Kentucky, working in the public's best interest, is to be an unrelenting advocate for independent insurance agents and to fulfill the political, business and educational needs of its members.
The motto of the Kentucky Young Insurance Professionals (KYIP) is that of the state of Kentucky:
"United We Stand, Divided We Fall".
It is only through participation and dedication that the independent agency system will continue to thrive in the 21st century. Being part of the committee gives the young insurance professional access to a network of their peers across the state. Members often call or email one another with questions and comments which helps enhance their business on a daily basis.
Involvement with KYIP also allows an young insurance professionals to gain new perspectives on their role within the independent agency system. They soon realize that the problems they face are the same problems faced by other insurance professionals all over the state. Thus, we come together and are strengthened by our similaritys, as well as being enriched by our differences. As a result, KYIPs are being prepared to assume roles of leadership within the independent insurance agency system, as well as being consulted for their opinions and ideas on matters which affect all aspects of independent agencies.
KYIP Mission
1) To increase agency productivity through improving communication skills in education, marketing and sales.
2) To better the industry's image through public relations programs.
3) To provide a resource to state and national associations in carrying out their programs.
- a) To assist state young agents committees with information regarding possible young agent programs, including the details of successful young agent activities throughout the nation.
- b) To actively solicit young agents in member agencies to participate in state and national young agent activities; to keep them informed of young agent and other association activities and to encourage their continued active involvement.
- c) To inform students, and other members of the public, of the opportunities available to them with the independent agency system.
- d) To participate in those IIABA programs that are requested by the IIABA officers and executive committee to perpetuate and enhance the image of the IIABA and the independent agency system.
KYIP Committee Goals
The KYIP Committee, in a continuous effort to improve its functioning for its members, has identified several key goals which it hopes to meet on an annual basis. These annual goals are the following:
To plan and conduct, along with the IIAK staff, an Annual KYIP Sales & Leadership Conference.
To promote KYIP attendance and participation at all IIAK events.
To plan and conduct the TCBIJC on the state level and to participate on the national level.
To designate a KYIP to serve on each standing committee of IIAK.
To participate in the National Young Agents Committee Awards process by submitting an entry application for each category.
To coordinate with IIAK on its fundraising for the Annual IIAK Convention and the Annual KYIP Sales & Leadership Conference.
To promote increased active participation in the annual National Legislative Conference and IIABA Annual Convention.
To identify candidates for possible service on the National Young Agents Committee.

The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA) is a national alliance of 300,000 business owners and their employees who offer all types of insurance and financial services products.
Unlike company-employed agents, IIABA independent insurance agents and insurance brokers represent more than one insurance company, so they can offer clients a wider choice of auto, home, business, life, health coverages as well as retirement and employee-benefit products.
IIABA agents and brokers not only advise clients about insurance, they recommend loss-prevention ideas that can cut costs. If a loss occurs, the independent insurance agent or broker stands with the client until the claim is settled.
